'Smoke-Free
Wednesdays' Launches in Media
MEDIA, PA—The
Borough of Media will launch Smoke-Free Wednesdays in
eateries across the town beginning Feb. 13.
A partnership between the
Delaware County Tobacco-Free Coalition and the Borough
of Media, Smoke-Free Wednesdays is an effort to promote
smoke-free dining in Delco and is a symbolic step in the
right direction. The campaign not only seeks to educate
business owners on the benefits of providing clean
indoor air for customers, but also encourages patrons to
leave their cigarettes at home for at least one day a
week. Read

Smoke-Free Homes & Cars Campaign
Secondhand
smoke is harmful to everyone, especially to babies and
young
children of all communities. Millions of children are exposed to
secondhand smoke in their home which can cause several health
issues such as Middle ear infections – millions per year,
Bronchitis/pneumonia and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) –
2,000 deaths per year. By increase awareness of the health
impacts on children from exposure to secondhand smoke and
helping families take action to protect children from exposure
to secondhand smoke, you can help protect children’s health.

About the Tobacco-Free Coalition
Since its inception in 1997, the
Delaware County Tobacco-Free Coalition has concentrated on
reducing and eliminating exposure to tobacco smoke pollution in
Delaware County through awareness campaigns, publications and
community events. More specifically, the Coalition’s present
focus is on reducing tobacco smoke pollution in restaurants,
homes, cars and workplaces.
The Coalition’s efforts also include
encouraging and educating schools, daycares, and community
centers about the importance of proactive, smoke-free policies;
educating residents about the free quit
smoking classes available in their areas; working with youth
to help counter the false marketing of tobacco companies;
educating lawmakers on the importance of smoke-free laws and
regulations; and last but not least, investing every individual
with the knowledge that tobacco products are a serious threat to
health, and that help is available to
those who desire to quit.
